My
quilting bug bit me in a very unlikely place, the doctor's office...
well actually, in the waiting room. Across from where I sat, a woman
was hand quilting. Her hoop and quilt; just sitting there, on her lap...
in a doctor's office!! I was amazed and drawn to her. She let me watch
her and we chatted for awhile.
(This was the appointment where we got to see our first pictures of Sadie.. the Dr. said she would be tall and thin. And so far, his prediction is accurate.)
Meeting that lady brought back sweet memories from my childhood;
when my grandma would teach me to draw out lines on the backs of fabric
squares and place them front to front, telling me to make sure my needle
and thread only went where the line was drawn. I remember thinking how
hard it was to follow those lines on two sides of the fabric!! LOL
From there she taught me how to sew a straight line with her old Singer
sewing machine. I believe the farthest I progressed in my quilting with
grandma was a couple of four-patch blocks, but we played games and she
spent hours and hours with me doing puzzles. I think it was probably
my grandmother who taught me perseverance.
Ok, back to the 21st century... My first trip to a quilt store was like
a dream. Nothing like those franchised fabric stores... this felt like
community and family and well, home. I had no idea what I was looking
for, what design I would start with, and was so overwhelmed by the abundance
of beautiful fabrics available that I ended up rummaging through their
remnant box. Too many beautiful choices!!
And now, several years later, I have designed and pieced quilts, accumulated
and sold fabric on eBay, and decided that being around and playing with
gorgeous quilting fabric on a daily basis is what I want to do forever!!
Thus, this web site was created. I have enjoyed selling fabric and meeting
the great people on eBay, but I believe that this new venue will help
control costs so that we can offer a greater variety to our customers.
I will only offer you items that I would be happy to own. First quality
fabrics, quilting books, patterns and maybe a few nostalgic items that bring back the thought of "grandma" and simpler times.
Enjoy
Your Visit!!
